(LOT 292)
c.1930s Babe Ruth Batting PSA Type 1 Encapsulated International Newsreel Photo - Measures Approx. 6" x 8"

SULTAN OF SWAT!!!... After Babe Ruth signed his two-year contract for the 1930-31 seasons for $80,000 per year, who could ever forget reporters questioning him about the fact that he was now making more money than the American President. In typical Ruthian fashion, he quickly responded: "I had a better year than the President", a comment most likely prompted by the fact that America was currently buried in a depression during Herbert Hoover's tenure. Ruth would move on to enjoy several more dominating seasons in the early 1930s, prompting one of our National Pastime's most iconic moments when his alleged "called shot" home run in game #3 of the World Series bashed into Wrigley Field's scoreboard.

This c.1930s International Newsreel PSA Type 1 Babe Ruth batting image portrays the Sultan of Swat donning his Yankee pinstripe pants and sweatshirt, completing his mighty swing in what appears to be a leisurely Spring Training moment. Like most of the Babe's on the field appearances, a multitude of enthralled onlookers can be seen in the background, hoping to see the Bambino wallop a baseball a "country mile". Measuring approximately 6" x 8", the imposing image reveals superb resolution and contrast, with some general scattered wear and several surface impressions (situated in the upper region by Ruth's head) the only notable blemishes. The final compliment is the somewhat light International Newsreel credit stamp affixed to the verso, with this extremely scarce Babe Ruth batting photo portraying his colossal swing that ultimately led to 714 lifetime round-trippers!
