1924 World Series - President Coolidge Throws Out the "First Pitch" - Original PSA Type 1 Encapsulated Underwood & Underwood Photo - Measures Approx. 6-1/2" x 9-1/2"

1924 FALL CLASSIC!!!... The 1924 World Series would pit the Washington Senators against John McGraw's New York Giants who were making their fourth consecutive Fall Classic appearance. This series would be Walter Johnson's inaugural post-season appearance, and the Big Train would ultimately win game #7 in extra innings, as the Senators would capture their first and only World Championship. The opening game would be played at Washington D.C.'s Griffith Stadium, and before the game commenced, President Calvin Coolidge would throw out the first ball.

This 6-1/2" x 9-1/2" PSA Type 1 Underwood & Underwood photo reveals President Coolidge about to toss that first pitch, and while Presidents Taft and Wilson had previously thrown out the first pitch on various opening days, Coolidge would be the inaugural President to throw a first pitch in a World Series contest. Senators' manager Stanley "Bucky" Harris is to the right of Coolidge, and it should be noted his first toss was made to umpire Connolly who was about 50 feet away. The image is absolutely stunning, revealing the finest possible contrast and clarity as well as the American Flag draped directly beneath President Coolidge. The verso includes a significant caption overlaying the Underwood & Underwood credit stamp, with the caption providing details of this momentous event. Stubbornly defying father time, this iconic image conjures up vivid memories of how Walter Johnson and his Washington Senators finally claimed their only championship in one of our National Pastime's most revered Fall Classics!
