c.1920s Kid Gleason Original "Underwood and Underwood" Photograph PSA/DNA Type 1
GLEASON TYPE 1!!!... Measuring approximately 5" x 7", this Underwood and Underwood Type 1 photo shows White Sox manager "Kid" Gleason posing on the field circa 1920s. With the caption reading "KID GLEASON TO HOLD JOB", the description is quite entertaining. "One of the most persistent rumors was that he would replace Ty Cobb as manager of the Detroit Tigers. Yesterday, Frank Mavin, Pres. Of the Detroit Club gave out a statement that Ty Cobb would manage the Tigers as long as he lives, and today a man very close to Comiskey says the same applies to Gleason." Gleason managed the Chicago White Sox from 1919 through 1923. His first season as a big-league manager was notable for his team's appearance in the World Series and the ensuing Black Sox Scandal, although Gleason was not involved in the scandal.
