(LOT 36)
1910 E93 Standard Caramel Ty Cobb PSA 6 EX-MT

E93 TYRUS!!!... One of Ty Cobb's highly coveted candy card issues is his E93 Standard Caramel subject that exhibits his classic fielding pose, left arm outstretched to snare a baseball in his leather glove. This is the same image used on both his E94 George Close Candy and E98 Anonymous E card issues, with many collectors gravitating towards this captivating illustration. Presented here just happens to be one of the finest known E93 Caramel Cobbs, a remarkable PSA 6 EX-MT marvel that along with a meager three other copies, has only been surpassed by five PSA examples. Indeed, a mere 4% of the 90 PSA encapsulated examples have managed to achieve this formidable assessment, placing this world-class offering as one of the Georgia Peach's finest preserved caramel cards extant. As most advanced collectors surely realize, many of the pre-WWI candy sets include cards that were primarily handled by rambunctious and carefree youths, striving to assemble as many as their beloved diamond heroes via the candy products housing these precious cardboard treats. While a much larger percentage of adults handled tobacco or T cards, the ongoing abuse of candy cards by untidy children is the primary reason locating super eye pleasing E cards are few and far between.

An immortal 1936 Hall of Fame charter member, Tyrus Raymond Cobb is one of baseball's greatest all-time players, with his 12 batting titles and .366 average seemingly unbreakable records. The 1910 campaign would see the fiery Cobb when his fourth consecutive batting title via an unfathomable .382 mark, with Tyrus truly establishing himself as the game's finest hitter. Issued that same season was his E93 Standard Caramel subject, and only a few of his century old E cards could possibly surpass the brilliance of this candy card treat depicting Cobb in the aforementioned fielding pose. Enthralling uniform gray and background orange hues are the highlights of this amazing keepsake that has eluded any notable surface flaws on either side. Snow white borders end at a fine perimeter, and the four corners portray a majority of their original right-angle formations. The final exclamation point is a super clean 30-subject checklist and, for full disclosure, the revered Cobb image does somewhat favor the right edge. This museum worthy masterpiece has stubbornly defied father-time, surviving the past 113 years to boast a myriad of its original factory issued qualities while anxiously awaiting a new home in any esteemed early 20th century collection!
