(LOT 6)
Incredible Handwritten and Signed Letter from Eddie Plank - All PSA-Encapsulated

PLANK 3-PAGE LETTER!!!... In 1916, Eddie Plank was nearing the end of his spectacular career in which he won 284 games with the Philadelphia Athletics and three World Series titles. Plank spent a year in the Federal League with the St. Louis Terriers before being purchased by the St. Louis Browns once the Federal League folded. Plank finished his career with an outstanding 326-194 record, 69 shutouts and an amazing 410 complete games in 529 starts. This 3-page handwritten letter originated from his first season with the Browns dated "Sept. 13/16" on Chicago Beach Hotel stationary. Addressed to his wife, the letter discusses plans and opportunities once the season has concluded. Baker, presumably former teammate Home Run Baker, invited Plank and his wife down to Trappe, Maryland (his home) where he could "shoot duck with him" around the 15th of November.

When asked if he could bring Anna, Baker said that was "fine and dandy". He goes on to plot out the road trip and finishes with "16 more games and then the City series and then homeward bound". The three-page letter has been penned in steel tip black fountain pen and signed at the conclusion, on Chicago Beach Hotel stationary and encapsulated Authentic by PSA/DNA. Only slight handling wear is apparent with two horizontal mailing folds appearing as the letter's only flaws. The back of each page is clean and pages 2 & 3 have been numbered at the top center. This is a wonderful and very personal correspondence from Plank to his wife on an off-day planning for the end of the season together. Eddie Plank went 16-15 in 1916. PSA/DNA LOAs included
