(LOT 797)
1909 Philadelphia Caramel E95 Eddie Plank SGC 4 VG-EX

GETTYSBURG EDDIE!!! One of the most sought-after vintage baseball cards is Eddie Plank's E95 Philadelphia Caramel subject that portrays the iconic Carl Horner portrait image also affixed to the legendary T206 Plank subject. Similar to Wagner's immortal T206 pose that stands as the hobby's Holy Grail, the T206 Plank is the neighboring Mona Lisa! Unfortunately, with the T206 Plank's excessive value outdistancing many collector's budgets, the E95 Plank may be the next best thing due to its relatively affordability.

This SGC 4 CG-EX E95 Plank offering joins a mere six other SGC examples at this somewhat scarce plateau, with only nine SGC specimens graded higher! Indeed, most of surfacing E95 Planks exhibit VG or lesser assessments, with this particular 4 highlighted by a sparkling T206 Plank portrait pose. Hall of Famer "Gettysburg Eddie" is one of baseball's greatest all-time southpaw pitchers, justified by his 326 lifetime wins and eight 20-win seasons. Likewise, the card portrays superb aesthetics include vibrant colors, and relatively clean surfaces (only exhibiting some negligible toning on the verso), with this E95 Plank candy card treat one of the most underrated issues in our illustrious hobby!
