(LOT 593)
1958 Topps #418 World Series Foes Mantle & Aaron PSA 8 NM-MT

1957 & '58 COMBATANTS!!! The 1957 Fall Classic would pit the mighty New York Yankees against the Milwaukee Braves, with an upstart Braves team upsetting the Bronx Bombers in a nail-biting seven-game series. In 1957, Mickey Mantle of the Yankees and Hank Aaron of the Braves captured the MVP Awards for their respective leagues after posting two of their finest seasons ever. Hammerin' Hank would ultimately out-perform The Mick, with Aaron belting three round-trippers, collecting 11 hits, knocking in seven runs and posting a sensational .393 series average versus Mantle's one homer, two RBIs and .263 BA; 130 points lower than Aaron.

The Topps Chewing Gum Company celebrated this historic event by issuing a #418 subject within their popular 1958 set titled "WORLD SERIES BATTING FOES - MICKEY MANTLE/HANK AARON." One of the most desirable issues from the 1950s, presented here is one of the highest graded PSA 8 NM-MT examples in the hobby with only 15 examples achieving higher grades. Delightful centering and four snow-white borders project the sparkling hued image to extraordinary heights, with the right-angled corners and breathtaking pack-fresh surfaces attributing to this high-grade assessment. Unquestionably, one of the most desirable and valuable cards from the 1958 Topps set, this highly coveted, high-grade gem portrays two of baseball's greatest immortals who captured the hearts of a nation for their entire careers!
