Ty Cobb Signed June 12, 1939 Baseball Centennial First Day Cover – PSA 8 NM-MT AUTO/PSA Encapsulation

Presented here is a highly coveted Ty Cobb signed June 12, 1939 Baseball Centennial First Day Cover that has been authenticated/encapsulated by PSA. The bold black fountain pen "Ty Cobb" signature has been appropriately awarded a PSA 8 NM-MT assessment, stubbornly defying father-time the past 84 years to retain a majority of its original scripted luster. One of the most notable days in our National Pastime's revered history is when Cooperstown first opened its doors to the public on June 12, 1939 to commemorate not only baseball's 100-year centennial, but to honor the 26 Hall of Fame inductees including the five original 1936 members.

A number of first-day mailing envelopes for the inductees were issued for that momentous day including "June 12, 1939 Cooperstown" as well as "FIRST DAY OF ISSUE" postal stamps, and in this case, a scarce black & white image of the HOF inductee situated within the upper left quadrant. This particular "Georgia Peach" envelope also includes the names of the five original HOF Charter Members along the lower left quadrant beneath Cobb's classic image, and reveals outstanding eye appeal. Throughout his incomparable 24-year career, Cobb paced the A.L. a record 12 years in batting average, including an incredible nine consecutive seasons from 1907 through 1915, ultimately leading to his record setting .366 lifetime batting average. His legacy will outlast eternity, justifying why this truly obscure scripted Cooperstown First Day Envelope effectively turns back the clock to the day when baseball's illustrious Hall of Fame celebrated our National Pastime's 100th anniversary via its highly publicized grand opening!
