(LOT 128)
Extremely Rare 1940 Play Ball #133 Signed Jimmie Foxx - PSA 10 GEM MINT AUTO – One of Only Two Signed Examples on the PSA "POP" Chart!

Presented here is one of the scarcest Jimmie Foxx signed cards extant, a breathtaking 1940 Play Ball #133 subject revealing a PSA 10 GEM MINT signature! Boasting one of the finest black fountain Jimmie Foxx scripts we have ever seen on ANY artifact, it has been joined by only a single other signed Play Ball Foxx as the only two PSA autographed specimens! Boldly signed "Jimmie Foxx" directly beneath his mammoth lumber, the black ink script jumps off the card, neatly penned in horizontal fashion during an era when "XX" was terrorizing overmatched American League hurlers. Along with Hornsby, Aaron, and Pujols, many baseball historians consider Jimmy Foxx one of the greatest right-handed hitters in baseball history. Nicknamed "The Beast" because of his supernatural power, Foxx terrorized pitchers to the tune of 534 lifetime home runs, and along with Gehrig, knocked in a record 100 or more runs in 13 consecutive seasons.

In 1933, Foxx would claim the American League Triple Crown by belting 48 dingers, knocking in 163 runs and posting a sensational .356 batting average via his 204 safeties. He would end his extraordinary 20-year career with a .325 average, 1,922 RBIs and an unfathomable 1.038 OPS, easily placing him as one of our National Pastime's greatest all-time sluggers. His imposing sepia-toned image reveals Foxx donning his Boston-road flannels, and along with the coupled "10" signature, the overall presentation is absolutely astonishing. No glaring surface blemishes are evident on either side, with the even corner wear and general surface wear resulting in approximate VG-EX aesthetics. Indeed, when considering overall eye appeal and the pinnacle autograph assessment, one could easily argue this momentous Foxx offering resides as his finest signed baseball card on the planet. When considering a 1933 Goudey Foxx with a PSA 9 signature fetched a staggering $124k in February 2021, we will let you ultimately decide what this much scarcer PSA 10 signed keepsake is truly worth!
