1920 "Headin' Home" Movie Blank-Back Broadside Starring Babe Ruth (His First Feature Film) - Measuring 6" x 11"
In 1920, in his first season with the New York Yankees, Babe Ruth finished fourth in batting with a .376 average, but led the American League with 54 home runs (35 more than batting leader George Sisler), walks (150), runs (158) and RBIs (135). He literally out-homered 14 of the 15 TEAMS in the Majors that year. The converted pitcher, turned hitter, was the belle of the ball and the whole world wanted a piece of him, including Hollywood. In 1920, Ruth was tapped to star in a feel-good silent movie in which a ballplayer leaves his small town to make good in the big leagues only to return home and fall in love.

"Headin' Home" was far from a stretch for the Yankees slugger, but his inclusion virtually saved the film. Offered is a 6" x 11" "Baseball Extra" broadside from Saturday, April 15 in Norfolk, Connecticut announcing the "six-part Special" of Headin' Home (1920). This bright yellow-orange film advertisement remains in excellent condition with "BABE RUTH" prominently printed in black at center. The broadside displays three horizontal storage folds, though none detract from the message and the blank reverse is devoid of any flaws. This is a brilliant reminder of how baseball and Hollywood intersect and would continue to do so for more than a century.
