(LOT 550)
"Unique for the Grade" 1954 Bowman #1 Phil Rizzuto PSA 10 GEM MINT – "POP 1"; The SOLE Highest Graded Example!"

This miraculous 1954 Bowman #1 Phil Rizzuto rookie card has achieved the pinnacle of grading success, standing alone as the SOLE PSA 10 GEM MINT copy on their illustrious population report! Indeed, PSA has encapsulated over 1,100 Rizzuto 1954 Bowman subjects with not a single other example meriting the hallowed "10" assessment. Most impressive is that the '54 Bowman Rizzuto just happens to be the #1 checklist subject, and meticulous enthusiasts are surely realizing, number one cards were typically plagued by substantial surface damage due to their placement at the top of the card stack. Rizzuto's inaugural MLB season was 1941, with the slick-fielding Hall of Famer eventually winning the shortstop job and ably assisting the Yankees winning their 9th world championship. Along with Derek Jeter, legendary shortstop Phil "The Scooter" Rizzuto remains one of the two greatest shortstops in New York Yankee history, with both of these Bronx legends residing as the only Yankee shortstops enshrined in Cooperstown, New York.

Rizzuto's uncanny fielding ability places him as one of baseball's finest all-time shortstops, claiming a 1950 A.L. MVP Award, and one of the Yankee mainstays that led them to five consecutive championships from 1949 – 1953. Likewise depicting championship caliber, this extraordinary Rizzuto gem reveals "The Scooter" in his classic Yankee pinstripe uniform as he kneels in the on-deck circle leaning on three bats. Boasting a wonderful smile, major highlights include vibrant hues, snow white borders and near-perfect 50/50 centering. Additional superlatives supporting the perfect grade are a pristine-like black "Phil Rizzuto" facsimile signature affixed in the autumn orange text box, impeccable surfaces and blistering sharp corner tips. The undisputed "best of the rest", it incredibly resides as the sole PSA 10 specimen, conjuring up vivid memories of Rizzuto's unparalleled ability to scoop up ground balls and turn double plays as good if not better than most shortstops who ever graced the diamond!
