MICKEY'S 2nd-YEAR!!! In 1953, Mickey was coming off an impressive second season in the big leagues, one in which he batted .311 with 23 homers and garnered a 3rd place finish in AL MVP voting. He then led the New York Yankees to a World Series Championship, the 15th in franchise history. Mantle's Hall of Fame career was just getting started. With his 1952 Topps "Rookie" receiving all of the attention and mind-boggling prices, the 1953 Topps Mantle is an excellent alternative. Similar to the lithograph portrait of the young slugger seen on the 1952, the 1953 Topps issue shows The Mick looking over his shoulder seeming to be leaning over the dugout fence, waiting his turn at bat. The offered PSA 5 EX example displays all of the HOF qualities one would expect from the powerful champion. With sharp edges, light corner wear and centering minimally favoring the lower edge, this 2nd-year release presents better than the technical grade.
