(LOT 276)
– EXTREMELY SCARCE 1933 Goudey #158 Signed Moe Berg (PSA AUTHENTIC) - One of Only 4 PSA Encapsulated Specimens! - Includes a JSA/James Spence LOA

This super scarce 1933 Goudey #158 Moe Berg offering has been signed by the former spy in bold black fountain pen along the left side of Berg's hallowed catching image. Authenticated by PSA, only three other PSA examples exist, placing this as one of the most sought-after scripted Goudey's in the collecting community. Born of Jewish descent, popular catcher Moe Berg may have been the most scholastic baseball player ever, having graduated from both Princeton University and Columbia Law School. He was a lawyer, mathematician and could speak 12 languages. Unfortunately, he couldn't "hit a lick", prompting the statement: "he can speak 12 languages but can't hit in any one of them!" Regardless, he was a prestigious individual, and after his 15-year MLB career, was used an atomic spy in WWII, obtaining critical information on various German scientists. As a grand testament to the desirability of his scripted Goudey, a prior example fetched a staggering $18.3K back in August 2020, with this extremely noteworthy offering destined to find a permanent home in any world-class autograph collection!
