(LOT 229)
1933 Goudey #223 Signed Dizzy Dean (PSA AUTHENTIC) – One of Only 10 PSA Encapsulated Copies!

A legendary Hall of Fame pitcher, Dean will forever be considered one of the most popular and admired players to ever grace a baseball diamond. He is the last National League 30 game winner, a feat accomplished in the 1934 season in which he and his brother Daffy won a combined 49 games, leading the Cardinals to a World Series title. By the age of 26 he had already won an incredible 134 games and was on his way to being a sure 300 game winner until a line-drive off the bat of Earl Averill in the 1937 All-Star game broke his toe. Consequently, Dizzy altered his pitching motion in favor of his injury, resulting in several arm injuries that curtailed his HOF career. He was traded to the Cubs for the 1938 season and hung up his spikes after the 1941 season (he actually resurfaced in 1947 and made a single 4-inning appearance with the St. Louis Browns).

One of Dean's most treasured artifacts is his signed 1933 Goudey #223 subject that is presented here in a sparkling PSA Authentic holder. Considered extremely scarce, only nine other examples have been authenticated by PSA, with this particular example portraying a superb black fountain pen script directly beneath Dean's waist. Depicting approximate "7/8" signature strength, this timeless autograph is affixed to a card that reflects solid "VG" aesthetics, with even corner wear, a vibrantly hued Dean pitching image and no glaring surface flaws all combining to place it as one of the more formidable signed Dean 1933 Goudey subjects. The $11K+ sale of another Dean '33 Goudey in October 2020 justifies its elite standing, with this museum worthy classic a bonafide addition to any esteemed autograph compilation!
