(LOT 225)
1933 Goudey #31 Signed Tony Lazzeri (PSA AUTHENTIC) – Only 7 PSA Encapsulated Examples!

Due to his rather sudden death at the tender age of 42 (relating to a heart-attack), signed Tony Lazzeri artifacts are few and far between. "Poosh Em Up" Tony, his popular nickname, broke into the major leagues with the Yankees in 1926, following his incredible Pacific Coast League record-breaking 1925 campaign when he batted .355, blasted 60 homers and knocked in an unfathomable 222 runs which still stands as a professional baseball record! Lazzeri immediately joined forces with Ruth, Gehrig, and Coombs to form the iconic "Murderer's Row" of fearsome New York sluggers, ably assisting the mighty Yankees to win two consecutive championships in 1927 and 1928.

The greatest Yankees all-time second baseman, his 1933 Goudey #31 subject arguably resides as his most popular baseball card, and it is that autographed subject that is presented here in a splendid PSA Authentic holder. One of only seven PSA encapsulated signed Lazzeri Goudey cards, its highly coveted stature is documented by the $11K October 2020 sale of another scripted example. The bold black fountain pen "Tony Lazzeri" signature is neatly signed across his classic Yankee pinstripes, presenting its enthralled viewers with conservative "8" strength. Additionally, the card itself provides fine "VG" eye appeal on the critical obverse side, with the only glaring flaws reflected on the negligible verso (including some paper loss near the lower right corner). One of the hardest hitting second sackers in MLB history, Tony Lazzeri's uncanny batting exploits justify both his permanent home in Cooperstown, N.Y. and the momentous prestige of this esteemed signed Goudey memento that rarely surfaces in any condition!
