(LOT 15)
1916 M101-5 #95 Napoleon Lajoie Blank Back SGC 5 EX - "Pop 2"; Only 1 SGC Example Graded Higher!

Presented here is one of the M101-5 Blank Back set's immortal Cooperstown Inductees, the Philadelphia Athletics popular 2nd baseman Napoleon Lajoie in a splendid SGC 5 EX holder. SGC's prestigious Census Report clearly indicates that only a single other example exists at the desirable "EX" tier with a sole copy graded higher! Lajoie stands as one of the most respected and loved ball players the game has ever known. His batting excellence earned him the Triple Crown in 1901; a season he batted a remarkable .426 which still stands as the modern-day record. When it was all said and done, Lajoie ended his illustrious career with 3,243 hits to the tune of a .338 lifetime average, and no conversation regarding who is the greatest all-time second sacker excludes his name.

His illustrious career came to an end in 1916, with this significant Lajoie keepsake his undisputed final baseball card issued during his playing days. Lajoie is donning the Philadelphia Athletics uniform he first wore some 15 years prior when he played for the Athletics back in 1901, with virtually all of his cardboard mementos portraying "Nap" wearing his Cleveland attire. Crystal clear-clarity, fine contrast and excellent centering highlight the classic batting pose, and other than some even corner wear, no notable flaws are evident. A "keeper" for sure, no serious Nap Lajoie collection can be considered complete without his last mainstream cardboard issue!
