(LOT 6)
1916 M101-5 #57 "Hap" Felsch Blank Back SGC 4 VG-EX – "Pop 2"

The standout centerfielder for the 1919 "Black Sox" team was Happy Felsch, who along with seven other teammates threw away his formidable baseball career by joining forces with Chick Gandil in "throwing" the 1919 World Series. Justifying his major role in fixing games was his paltry .192 Series average as well as his shabby fielding with many fly balls inexplicably falling between him and iconic left fielder Joe Jackson. In fact, the immortal Christy Mathewson had joined renowned sportswriter Hugh Fullerton in the press box to analyze the Series with both agreeing a number of those fly balls should have been easily caught. After he was banned from the game he loved so much, Felsch's heavy remorse led him to state: "I'm out of baseball, the only profession I knew anything about, and a lot of gamblers have gotten rich." The joke is on us!" Collectibles of Happy Felsch are few and far between, justifying why this sensational 1916 M101-5 #57 SGC 4 VG-EX blank back offering truly resides as one of his most formidable cardboard keepsakes. Felsch's awe-inspiring throwing image somewhat favors the lower left edges, while exhibiting a breathtaking White Sox pinstriped uniform. Uniform corner wear and some diminutive surface toning are the only blemishes worthy of mention, with this somewhat scarce Felsch artifact seldom surfacing for the taking!
