(LOT 1738)
Extremely Rare 1933 Ring Lardner PSA-Authentic Type IV Associated Press Photograph Hall of Famer!

Offered is an exceptionally rare photograph of Ring Lardner from 1933. Lardner spent a good part of his career working as a satirist and contributor to the Saturday Evening Post until eventually launching his career as a sports writer for his hometown Chicago Tribune chronicling his much loved baseball. Sadly, as with many fans of the era, Ring felt betrayed and became disenchanted with America's National Pastime following the 1919 Black Sox scandal contributing to his once joyous and upbeat pennings turning darker and more apathetic. Encapsulated by PSA, the striking, sepia-toned headshot of the Hall of Fame sportswriter, who exposed the 1919 conspiracy, presents with minor surface wear and slight handling is apparent. The reverse shows period stamping from the 1931-1941 era and pinpoints the date, Sept. 25, 1933. This was in fact the day of Ring Lardner's passing. This is one of the few known photographs of the illustrious sports writer, presumably issued upon his passing. A Hall of Famer image few collections will ever achieve ownership of.
