(LOT 1708)
Spectacular 1926 Lou Gehrig "Portrait" PSA Type 1 Encapsulated ACME Newspictures Photos Measures Approx. 5" x 8" (Incl. PSA Type I LOA)

Presented here is an extraordinary 1926 Lou Gehrig PSA Type 1 Photo that stands as one of the most stoic facial images of the "Iron Horse" extant. It is no secret that the immortal Gehrig was the ultimate embodiment of courage, leaving an indelible mark on the game itself that will unquestionably stand the test of time. No wonder a seemingly infinite number of collectors actively pursue his exalted artifacts, with this classic Gehrig portrait offering depicting an extremely "intense" facial expression from the iconic first baseman. The 1926 campaign would see the "Iron Horse" complete his second full season in Yankee pinstripes and the all-time first sacker would certainly not disappoint the "Big Apple" faithful.

Gehrig would post a stellar .313 batting average (his inaugural .300+ season) and his 109 R.B.I.s would begin his record setting run of 13 consecutive seasons in which he knocked in 100 runs or more runs, joining forces with Babe Ruth in catapulting the Yankees to an American League pennant. Gehrig's revered portrait pose portrays crystal clear clarity as he dons his classic Yankee cap and pinstripes. No obtrusive flaws are evident, with a few stray wrinkles barely visible to the naked eye. The verso reveals the critical ACME NEWSPICTURES credit stamp as well as a blue caption stating "Gehrig, first baseman of the New York Yankees, winners of the American League Pennant race", the final "thumbs up" for this Henry Louis Gehrig masterpiece that depicts a magnificent enduring expression of the hallowed "Iron Horse!"
