(LOT 1696)
c.1920s Lou Gehrig Classic Batting Swing PSA Type 1 Encapsulated International Newsreel Photo Measures Approx. 5-5/8" x 7-1/2" (Incl. PSA Type 1 LOA)

This magnificent Lou Gehrig c.1920s batting photo portrays the "Iron Horse" in the midst of his classic swing, donning his classic home pinstripes with an awe-inspiring Yankee Stadium backdrop. Hands outstretched with a firm grip to his colossal lumber, Gehrig is demonstrating his revered batting pose that ultimately led to an abundance of mammoth round-trippers throughout his illustrious career. Measuring approximately 5-5/8" x 7-1/2", this PSA Type 1 offering reflects near-perfect photography, with the Gehrig central image emulating imposing clarity and contrast. The relatively clean surface only reveals a few stray wrinkles barely visible to the naked eye, and the flip side includes the critical INTERNATIONAL NEWS credit stamp.

While Gehrig's extensive list of unfathomable batting accomplishments includes 493 round-trippers, nearly 2,000 runs batted in, a .340 lifetime average, a 1.080 OPS, a 1934 Triple Crown, and incredibly knocking in over 100 runs for 13 consecutive seasons, his iconic legacy is still linked to his incredible 2,130 consecutive game streak that came to an abrupt end in 1939 via the incurable ALS disease. It was that illness that eventually led to his incomparable "Luckiest Man on the Face of the Earth" speech on July 4, 1939 that still resides as baseball's "Gettysburg Address". Simply stated, Gehrig's immortal stature is destined to outlast time, substantiating why any of his awe-inspiring collectibles such as this sensational batting photo are among the Iron Horse's most revered heirlooms!
