Ultra-Rare c.1900s George McBride PSA Type 1

Carl Horner Cabinet Image Used for McBride's M116 Sporting Life Card Measures Approx. 5" x 7" (Incl. PSA Type 1 LOA)
Among the rarest and most coveted of all baseball cabinet cards are Carl Horner's legendary turn of the 20th-century artifacts that included brilliant portrait images of our National Pastime's bygone players. Iconic to say the least, Carl Horner resides as one of the most celebrated photographers in baseball history, and considering his Boston-based company resided in a city that housed both American and National league ballclubs, it granted Horner the golden opportunity to snap pictures of virtually every MLB player from the early to mid-1900s. A seemingly countless number of Horner's images eventually found their way onto early 20th century cards, with some of these prestigious issues including 1902-11 W600 Sporting Life Cabinets, 1903 E107 Breisch Williams, 1909 E103 Williams Caramels, 1908-09 Rose Company Postcards, the exalted 1909-11 T206 tobacco subjects, and the classic 1911 M116 Sporting Life set.

It should be noted that while many of these remaining Horner images were removed from their original mounts, this sensational c.1900 George McBride Carl Horner cabinet offering includes McBride's hallowed portrait illustration in its original mounted state. Clearly, this 16-year MLB shortstop never looked better, with McBride's nearly immaculate image depicting the finest possible contrast and clarity, a traditional quality of Horner's artistic work. Most significantly, this timeless image was utilized for George McBride's revered 1911 M116 Sporting Life subject that is part of one of the most breathtaking pre-war issues. The obverse side reveals no glaring surface flaws, with the only minor blemishes being standard border toning as well as a diminutive soiling spot near the lower edge. The flip side reflects a number of scribbled pencil notations, and the critical Carl Horner credit stamp is completely intact, neatly inscribed on the cabinets lower right mount ("Carl Horner Co., WASH'N BLDG. 387 WASHINGTON ST., BOSTON"). A fascinating heirloom from the early-1900s, rarely do Carl Horner cabinets surface in any condition, let alone in EX+ state such as this highly coveted masterpiece!
