(LOT 210)
T206 Ty Cobb Bat on Shoulder "Sovereign 350 Subjects/Factory 25" (PSA 4.5 VG-EX+) - "Pop 1" Sovereign 350 Subjects; Only 11 Sovereign 350 Examples Graded Higher!

Arguably, the most desirable "turn of the century" baseball cards are the four different Ty Cobb T206 cards issued between 1909 and 1911, justifying why it comes as little surprise that record-breaking values for all four Cobbs are currently being realized for all technical assessments. The "Georgia Peach" arguably stands as the supreme baseball legend from that era, and no baseball card carries his legacy more prominently than a superior T206 artifact. Enthusiasts scramble to obtain at least one, if not all four, of the Ty Cobb T206 variations that are included in PSA's illustrious "Top 250 Sportscards in the Hobby" publication, and presented here is a superb T206 Ty Cobb "Bat on Shoulder" Sovereign 350 Subjects PSA VG-EX+ 4.5 specimen. Of utmost significance is that this "rare for the grade" offering stands as the SOLE Sovereign 350 copy at the "VG-EX+ 4.5" plateau with a mere eleven examples graded higher.

Synonymous with Cobb's worldly achievements including his all-time high .366 lifetime batting average is this spectacular artifact, depicting all of the required attributes associated with the fine mid-grade assessment. Starting with the spectacular gray oriented hues on his classic Tigers uniform as well as the detailed intensity emanating from his facial expression, Cobb's image nearly "comes to life" as he prepares to stroke one of his 4,189 hits via his vintage lumber. More impressively, the brilliant yellow setting and vast array of rich gray/green hues all combine to create awe-inspiring central image aesthetics. No glaring surface flaws are evident and only an ever-so-slight "off" registration along with the image's favoritism toward the right edge prevent this card from achieving a higher grade. The rather obscure "Sovereign 350 Subjects" verso is the final exclamation point for a "Georgia Peach" subject that is extremely tough to locate with this seldom-surfacing cigarette advertising brand and VG-EX+ assessment!
