(LOT 766)
The "Magna Carta" of Baseball Publications – A 1903 World Series Program at Boston – Game 3. Miraculously Unrestored!

The first of something always remains one of the most noteworthy events in history. Sometimes we can even recall where we were. Millions of boomers claim to have been at Woodstock. Many of us recall the riveting moments before Armstrong's first step on the lunar surface. But artifacts from those historic events are increasingly more valuable than the memories. Certainly there's no one still alive who can lay claim to witnessing the first World Series back in 1903. The longest continuous yearly championship in the history of sport can also lay claim to one of the most valuable printed souvenirs ever produced. Few have had bragging rights to ownership of the simple yet impossibly rare artifact produced for that most important first in baseball history.

Its fragile nature alone renders it a miracle survivor. Rarer than a Wagner card, it's few owners would sooner part with their wives than see their 1903 World Series program leave home. Ok, perhaps that is a bit of an exaggeration, but I'd bet it causes food for thought. LOL!! Offered is the "Magna Carta" of 1903s – a fully unrestored and completely intact example of the diminutive fold-over scorecard for Game 3 of a Pittsburgh victory at Boston. (pencil notation of 18,801 on the cover verifies this specific game). Period/vintage scoring. Mild creasing at the periphery and darkened paper from age. Spine is intact. Overall near excellent, but far more important is the fact that it is one of very few examples known to have no restoration. It is completely original! Boston defeats Pittsburgh 5 games to 3 for the first ever World Series Championship.
