(LOT 89)
Walter Johnston 1910 Novelty Cutlery (PSA VG 3) - "1 of 1" (Johnson)

No Walter Johnson illustration could possibly compare to the classic black uniform pitching image seen on his highly coveted 1910 Novelty Postcard as he unleashes one of his blazing fastballs. Presented here just happens to be an ultra-obscure Johnson Novelty Postcard in a splendid PSA VG 3 holder, the sole copy at this tier with a meager 5 examples graded higher! Walter Johnson is widely regarded as baseball's greatest pitcher ever, and his 417 lifetime victories, 2.17 E.R.A., and 110 shutouts strongly support that notion. A 1936 charter member of baseball's illustrious Hall of Fame, Johnson also fanned 3,508 hitters, with his sidearm fastball terrorizing overmatched hitters for a generation.

The season this postcard was issued, the "Big Train" would compile his first "20+" winning season, tallying 25 victories, 313 strikeouts and a microscopic-like 1.36 E.R.A., embarking on an unparalleled career that spanned the next two decades! The imposing pitching image of the Senators ace hurler has miraculously retained a majority of its factory issued luster, combining crystal-clear clarity, fine contrast and a relatively clean surface to support the technical assessment. The elaborate designed borders have likewise defied "father-time", with modest corner wear and a diagonal crease situated near the upper left corner accounting for the grade. A clean postcard verso is the final "thumbs-up" for this seldom surfacing keepsake that serves as a sheer reminder of Walter Johnson's unequivocal pitching majesty that placed him at the pinnacle of success!
