(LOT 68)
1909 T204 Ramly Wee Willie Keeler PSA 5 EX

Legendary Hall of Famer Wee Willie Keeler coined the phrase "hit 'em where they ain't", and ironically, this outstanding PSA EX 5 T204 Ramly offering "ain't" often found with a mid-grade assessment. Indeed, the ultra-condition sensitivity of T204 subjects plagued a majority of its surviving examples, with only 3 other examples listed at this super scarce plateau and a meager 6 specimens graded higher! Keeler will forever stand as one of the best line drive hitters in baseball history. Owner of almost 3,000 lifetime hits and a .343 lifetime batting average, his statistics are synonymous with his famous "hit 'em where they ain't" and "keep your eye on the ball" quotes.

He is one of the few great ballplayers that enjoyed Cooperstown worthy statistics in both the 19th and 20th centuries, and this EX 5 Ramly gem suffices as one of his most coveted cardboard artifacts. Incredibly, this offering has over a century of time with minimal disturbance to the classic Carl Horner portrait Keeler image that depicts fine centering (w/a slight partiality towards the upper edge) and near-perfect contrast, a rare T204 quality since most subjects typically portray lightly contrasted illustrations. Most significantly, the sensitive gold hued borders do not reveal any obtrusive chipping, while both sides of this masterpiece have likewise eluded any glaring flaws. "Scarce for the grade", this 112-year old keepsake has bested father-time, standing tall as one of the finest preserved T204 Keeler's you will ever come across!
