(LOT 41)
1888 Old Judge N173 Cabinet Cap Anson - "11-1; Bust Portrait, No Arms Visible" (SGC 5 EX) - 1 of 3; Highest Graded Example on the Combined SGC & PSA "Pop" Charts!

Offered is a superior example of the 1888 Old Judge N173 cabinet photograph highlighting the game's first superstar, Adrian "Cap" Anson, dignified and aristocratic. Produced and released by Goodwin & Co. to follow-up the smaller N172 Old Judge "tobacco cards" released the previous year. These 4-1/4" x 6-1/2" cabinets photographs were only available via mail order through a coupon exchange program. Over 130-plus years later, Anson's vivid life-like portrait is the finest example to have ever been graded. The reverse has some slight spotting and toning and an irrelevant smudge at the bottom right corner. However, the intense vibrancy of the portrait overrides all technical anomalies, SGC 5 EX and conservatively graded.
