(LOT 12)
Amazingly Well-Preserved 1888 A16 Allen & Ginter "World's Champions" Album

Richmond, Virginia's tobacconist Allen & Ginter was at the forefront of the new, but budding relationship between big tobacco and professional sports, specifically baseball. And while the A & G sets crossed multiple subject thresholds, like American Indian Chiefs, flags and wild animals, baseball issues prevailed as their most popular cigarette pack inserts, specifically the N28 and N29 "World's Champions" series. Offered here is a spectacular 14-page 1888 "Album of World's Champions", which displayed the cards in book form. The original twine remains intact and tied at the left while the front and back covers look fresh and show only minor handling wear. Small crease at the upper left corner; very light expected surface and edge wear. Similar back assessment with chips at bottom corners. The interior pages remain pressed together as if never paged thru. Overall EX-Mint condition for this 133-year old album.
