(LOT 878)
1937 V300 O-Pee-Chee #120 Bob Feller Rookie Card (PSA NM 7)

One of the toughest pre-WWII rookie cards to find is the ever-elusive 1937 O-Pee-Chee #120 Bob Feller rookie subject that rarely surfaces for the taking. The undisputed inaugural card for the fire-balling Hall of Famer, we now present one of the finest examples extant, a brilliant PSA Near Mint 7 cardboard gem that stands as one of only six copies at this hallowed plateau, with a meager two specimens graded higher! Designated as V300 by the American Card Catalog, the 1937 O-Pee-Chee "die-cuts" measure approximately 2-5/8" x 2-15/16" and appear to be an interesting combination of the '34 Goudey, 1934-'36 Batter-Up & 1937 O-Pee-Chee Baseball Stars sets. Regarding Bob Feller's amazing legacy, had it not been for a nearly 4 year Navy stint in World War II, "Rapid Bob" would have easily been a 300-game winner.

Yet, even after losing almost 4 full years of his prime, he still managed to win an astounding 266 games, including six 20-win seasons, 2,500+ lifetime strikeouts, and 348 K's in a single season. He is certainly one of the greatest pitchers in baseball history, justifying why a myriad of avid collectors actively seek his most desirable cards, NONE of which possibly compete with the ultimate prestige of his undisputed 1937 O-Pee-Chee rookie card. This offering depicts a virtually un-improvable black & white Feller image as he delivers one of his blazing fastballs, set against a classic baseball stadium backdrop. Strong right-angled corners, no glaring surface flaws and a super clean flipside "bio" complete this highly-coveted 84-year old rookie masterpiece that synonymous with Feller's elite legacy, has only been bested by a handful of examples on the illustrious PSA Pop Chart!
