(LOT 519)
1950 Bowman #98 Ted Williams PSA 8 NM-MT

SPLENDID SPLINTER!!! Williams enlisted in the Marine Corps in May 1942. But instead of playing ball for some General stateside, he opted for the V-5 program to train as a Naval aviator. Johnny Pesky, Ted's teammate, went to the same aviation training program and said about Williams: "He mastered intricate problems in 15 minutes which took the average cadet 90 minutes." Pesky also added that when Ted took the pilot's payoff test: "He broke all the records in reflexes, coordination, and visual reaction time" and that Williams reflexes, "could make a plane and it's 'pianos' (machine guns) play like a symphony orchestra, and that his reflexes, coordination, and visual reaction, made him a built-in part of the machine."

And when Williams spoke of himself, this is what he said "A man has to have goals, for a day, for a lifetime - and that was mine, to have people say, There goes Ted Williams, the greatest hitter who ever lived. We have one for you. Issued in 1950 by the Bowman Company, this pint sized Ted Williams card is well worthy of its NM-MT 8 status. The image presented on this card is stunningly real, so make your best effort
