Extraordinary 1888 N2 Allen & Ginter 100% Complete American Indian Chiefs 54-Card Master Set (Includes the 4 Major Error Cards) - #3 on the PSA Set Registry w/a 6.759 GPA w/Top Pop Bonuses

Of all the popular "Non-Sports" Sets, arguably none can compete with the ultimate prestige of the 1888 N2 Allen & Ginter 50-card American Indians Chief compilation that includes an additional 4 error cards in the 54-card master set. The famous Richmond, Virginia tobacco company founded by John Allen and Lewis Ginter in 1865 had already made their mark producing Cigarette cards of sports personalities (including popular baseball players) and celebrities in 1887, and in 1888, issued their landmark American Indian Chiefs gathering. Each card meas

ures approximately 1-1/2" x 2-3/4" and present absolute brilliant full-color lithographic images of a multitude of Native American heroes, also portraying similar checklist style ad backs as the previous year's issues. It is generally assumed that the Indian Chief images are portraits from the Department of the Interior in Washington, so they actually represent real photographs of the American Chiefs from that time period. While not 100% etched in stone, it is argued that iconic Cowboys/Indians artist Charles Marion Russell was responsible for producing a majority of these classic portrait images, although that debate has never achieved full resolution. Of course, the two most critical subjects in he set are the legendary American Indian Chiefs Sitting Bull and Geronimo, followed by likewise popular Indians Chief Joseph and Red Cloud. Of course, Geronimo was the immortal Apache leader who fearlessly led his tribe in a myriad of US and Mexican based Campaigns while Sitting Bull will forever be noted for leading his Lakota tribe to the slaughter of General Custer's troops in the iconic Battle of Little Bighorn in June 1876.

With that said, presented here just happens to be one of the foremost "Master Sets" ever compiled, a striking 54-card compilation that currently resides as the 3rd finest set on the PSA Set Registry w/a stupendous 6.759 GPA w/Top Pop Bonuses! Indeed, this magnificent compilation includes the additional four error cards that are listed as follows: Agate Arow Point (PSA 8.5); British (PSA 6); Chief Gall (PSA 6.5); White Swan (PSA 5.5), with the highly coveted Geronimo card miraculously graded a PSA Mint 9 and standing as the sole and highest graded example extant (FYI, Sitting Bull has a PSA 6 assessment). The population data for this extraordinary offering is astounding, with 5 of the subjects standing as the sole and highest graded examples (including the aforementioned PSA Mint 9 Geronimo).

Total breakdown by grade are: TWO "PSA Mint 9's"; FOUR "PSA NM/MT+ 8.5's"; FIVE "PSA NM/MT 8's"; THREE "PSA NM+ 7's"; TEN "PSA NM 7's"; THREE "PSA EX/MT+ 6.5's"; SIXTEEN "PSA EX/MT 6's"; THREE "PSA EX+ 5.5's"; FIVE "PSA EX 5's"; TWO "PSA VG/EX 4's"; ONE "PSA Good+ 2.5". Our consignor obvious "cherry picked" virtually all of these examples, steadfastly scouring through numerous examples before choosing the sparkling specimens existing in this world class gathering. The museum-like quality for any of these Indian Chief sets is obvious, let alone this marquee offering with many of its cards stubbornly defying the past 133 years to present themselves in "pack-fresh" condition. One of the most impressive non-sports sets on the planet, it effectively serves as a steadfast reminder of how a large part of American history is attributed to the proud Indians who first occupied this North American continent, with the legacy of their fearless leaders echoing for eternity!

As we have done in the past, this incredible grouping is also being offered as 54 individual lots, with the HIGHEST aggregate sale to ultimately determine if the 54 cards will sell as individual lots or a complete master set. In order to view the grades for all 54 subjects, our website has provided a link to the PSA website whereby you can view in detail this #3 PSA Registered Set that is under the title of: "MEMORYLANEINC".
