(LOT 326)
1976 Pete Maravich PSA Type 1 Encapsulated Times-Picayune Photo – Measures Approx. 6-1/2" x 9-1/2"

The offered 1976 illustration represents "Pistol Pete's" third season with the New Orleans Jazz, having traded in his #44 Hawks jersey for his #7 Jazz uniform for the 1974/'75 campaign. This awe-inspiring PSA Type 1 photo measuring approximately 6-1/2" x 9-1/2" portrays the great Hall of Fame shooting guard exhibiting his unparalleled ball handling as he drives towards the basket against the Detroit Pistons on December 19, 1976. Maravich is donning his classic #7 Jazz jersey as he once again mesmerized an overmatched defense not capable of keeping up with 'Pistol Pete". Amazing crystal-clear clarity and near-perfect contrast are the highlights of this spellbinding image, and the verso includes the critical Times-Picayune Publishing Corp. credit stamp as well as a significant newspaper caption detailing the 125-110 Pistons victory. Maravich would score 29 points in a losing cause, with the photo including several Pistons defenders such as legendary center Bob Lanier (#16 - far left/closest to the basket); M.L. Carr (#30); Chris Ford (#42) and Howard Porter (#54). The 1976/'77 campaign would turn out to be Pete Maravich's finest season as he led the NBA with a sensational 31.1 points per game, solidifying his legacy as a true NBA icon!
