(LOT 322)
1971 Pete Maravich "Rookie Year" PSA Type III Encapsulated Associated Press Photo – Measures Approx. 7" x 9"

This 1971 PSA Type III Pete Maravich rookie year offering portrays the dazzling superstar trying to score another one of his infinite-like baskets against the New York Knicks Hall of Fame forward Dave Debusschere. A number 3 first round pick by the Atlanta Hawks in the 1970 amateur draft, his unparalleled and creative offensive skill-sets led iconic Hall of Famer John Havlicek to once quote: "Pete Maravich is the best ball-handler of all-time". It didn't take long for Maravich to place his indelible stamp on the NBA, averaging a sensational 23.2 points his 1970/'71 rookie campaign; ultimately ending his 11-year Hall of Fame career with nearly 16,000 points and an outstanding 24.2 points per game average. Tragically, his life was cut short when he passed away at the tender young age of 40 during a 1988 basketball pick-up game due to a previously unknown heart defect. Measuring approximately 7" x 9", this Type III ROOKIE photo (issued off of a duplicate negative or photo) reveals Maravich's flashy brilliance as he leaves the hardwood floor in "Jordanesque" style! No glaring flaws are evident on this "spine-tingling" illustration that depicts #44 skying forward towards a career that would ultimately place in basketball's illustrious Hall of Fame!
