1937 World Series Game#1 – Joe DiMaggio & Col. Jacob Ruppert – PSA Type 1 Encapsulated International News Photos – Measures Approx. 6-1/2" x 8-1/2" - Includes PSA Type 1 LOA
This magnificent offering depicts the iconic "Joltin" Joe DiMaggio and legendary Yankees team owner Colonel Jacob Ruppert sharing a candid moment before game#1 of the 1937 World Series, played on October 6, 1937. The 1937 Fall Classic would see a rematch of the 1936 Series, with the mighty New York Yankees once again matching up against their cross-river rival New York Giants. The opening game would be played at Yankee Stadium with Giant's ace lefthander Carl Hubbell clinging to a 1-0 lead over Yankees southpaw Lefty Gomez through four innings.
In the bottom of the fifth, Joe DiMaggio would plate two runs with a clutch single, and the Yankees would move on to best Hubbell by an 8-1 score. The Bronx Bombers would ultimately continue their dominance over their cross-town opponents by besting the Giant's in a short five-game series. This outstanding 6-1/2" x 8-1/2" International News Photos offering portrays the Yankee Clipper and Ruppert engaging a private discussion, with the back caption cleverly stating the Yankees team owner is whispering the following statement in Joe's ear: "I know you won't let me down Joe!". Fine contrast, superb clarity and a relatively clean surface that has eluded any major blemishes complete this obscure image that was taken during the height of "Joltin Joe's" four consecutive championships run!
