(LOT 282)
1929 Jimmie Foxx PSA Type 1 Encapsulated Type 1 Underwood & Underwood Photo – Measures Approx. 6-1/2" x 8"

Hall of Famer Jimmie Foxx will always be considered one of the greatest right-handed hitters in baseball history (along with Hornsby & Aaron); finishing his magnificent career with the Boston Red Sox after playing 11 seasons with Connie Mack's Athletics. The powerful slugging first sacker tested the limits of baseball's furthest fences with his sheer power that could equally match or surpass any 21st century steroid user. Starting his career in 1925 with the Philadelphia Athletics, Foxx steadily increased his at-bats each year until he finally played his first full season in 1929. It was that fateful 1929 season that "The Beast", Foxx's popular nickname, broke out of his cage with 33 home runs, 118 R.B.I.'s and a sensational .354 batting average, the same year this remarkable 6-1/2" x 8" offering was issued.

He would eventually end his incredible career with 534 round-trippers, knocking in 100 or more runs an incredible 13 consecutive seasons from 1929 thru 1941! His uncanny power placed immense fear in the hearts of most of his opposing pitchers, and he walloped 30 or more home runs in 12 consecutive seasons including two seasons in which he hit 58 and 50 dingers. Encapsulated by PSA, this 1929 Underwood & Underwood PSA Type 1 photo portrays an imposing portrait image of the immortal Foxx as he dons his period-style 1929 Philadelphia Athletics cap. The sparkling eye appeal leads the viewer to believe that Foxx is literally gazing into your eyes via the stunning sepia-toned stoic pose, with the only noteworthy blemish being a diminutive lower left corner chip. In closing, Jimmie Foxx's unfathomable batting statistics justify his elite standing in our National Pastime's glorious history, with this captivating world-class offering the perfect testament for his elite stature!
