(LOT 276)
1927 New York Yankees Pitching Staff – PSA Type 1 Encapsulated Underwood & Underwood Photo - Measures Approx. 8" x 10"

This 1927 PSA Type 1 offering depicts the ten Yankees pitchers that ably assisted them in ultimately becoming one of our National Pastime's greatest all-time ballclubs. Along with the iconic "Murderer's Row" that included the incomparable Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, the Yankees overwhelmingly won the American League pennant via their 110-44 record, besting the second place Athletics by 19 games! Claiming first place after their opening day win, the Yankees would never look back and put the exclamation point on an unparalleled campaign by sweeping the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 1927 Fall Classic. Measuring approximately 8" x 10", the black & white image reveals ten stellar Yankee pitchers, two of which eventually became Cooperstown Inductees (Hoyt & Pennock). From left to right, the ten pitchers include: Shawkey, Gerard, Thomas, Shocker, Hoyt/HOF, Pennock/HOF, Moore, Miller, Ruether, and Pipgras. Hoyt would pace the team with 22 wins, Pennock and Moore would win 19 games apiece and Shocker would post 18 victories. Other than an upper right corner chip that does not impede the critical central image, the illustration emanates superb aesthetics, with the significant flipside Underwood & Underwood caption the final thumbs up for this fascinating memento from that captivating 1927 Yankees campaign!
