(LOT 272)
c.1930's Babe Ruth PSA Type I Encapsulated George Burke Photo – Measures Approx. 4" x 6" (Incl. PSA Type 1 LOA)

This awe-inspiring c.1930's PSA Type 1 offering reveals the "Sultan of Swat" in a classic game action batting pose as he prepares to unleash another one of his mighty swings and send a horsehide sphere towards the ballpark's furthest confines. Magnificent to say the least, the image was taken by none other than the renowned George Burke, who arguably resides as the finest baseball photographer in the post-1930 era. For the first four seasons of the 1930's decade (1930 -'33), Babe Ruth showed little signs of slowing down, blasting 170 round-trippers (42.5/year), knocking in 556 runs (139/year) and posting a sensational .345 batting average! Yet, for all of those accomplishments, no feat was more captivating than his "Called-Shot" home run in game#3 of the 1932 World Series when he walloped a Charlie Root fastball off of the Wrigley Field centerfield scoreboard after "allegedly" pointing in that direction directly before the pitch. That momentous homer sent shockwaves throughout the baseball community and will forever "echo for eternity" in the hearts and minds of passionate baseball enthusiasts. This 4" x 6" photo stands as a sheer testament to Ruth's continued diamond dominance throughout the early 1930's, as the Bambino prepares to blast another one of his tape-measure dingers. Extremely well-centered and in typical Burke fashion, the photo exhibits the finest possible clarity and contrast, somehow defying 'father-time" over the past 85-90 years to remain in "EX+" condition. The final superlative are the verso's ink stamps including the critical GEO. BURKE 847 BELMONT AVE. CHICAGO" credit stamp as well as a "RUTH, Babe" typed notation along the upper edge. One of the "Babe's" finest 1930's images, it serves as a steadfast reminder of how this swashbuckling icon captivated an entire Nation via his unprecedented assault on opposing fences!
