(LOT 37)
"Scarce for the Grade" 1907-'09 H.M. Taylor Detroit Tigers Team Postcard w/a Rookie Ty Cobb (SGC VG/EX 4) – "1 of 3" & the HIGHEST GRADED SGC Example!

Presented here is a brilliant 1907-'09 H.M. Taylor Detroit Tigers team postcard that includes a "rookie" Ty Cobb." One of only 3 SGC encapsulated copies at this popular mid-grade plateau, it joins those two other SGC specimens as the highest graded example! From 1907 thru 1909, the Detroit Tigers captured three consecutive American League pennants, led by the incomparable Tyrus Raymond Cobb and their Hall of Fame player/manager Hughie Jennings. Unfortunately for Detroit, they could not claim a World Series championship, falling twice to the Cubs and to Pittsburgh in 1909. Distributed by H.M. Taylor for three consecutive pennant winning seasons, its most cortical aspect is that it includes a "rookie" Ty Cobb who had broken into the Major Leagues with the Detroit club in 1905.

The Georgia Peach claimed his inaugural batting championship in 1907 and never looked back, winning an unfathomable 12 batting titles in 13 seasons including an unbelievable 9 consecutive titles from 1907 – 1915! The postcard itself emanates virtually un-improvable resolution and contrast, eluding any glaring surface flaws over the past 113 years. The immortal Ty Cobb is situated in the second row, third from left, while the legendary Hughie Jennings is seated front center. A relatively clean unused postcard verso is the final superlative for this 1907 Tigers team offering that sports a youthful Ty Cobb "rookie" image at a time when he was embarking on a career for the ages!
