(LOT 175)
1947 Brooklyn Dodgers w/Rookie Jackie Robinson PSA Type 1 Encapsulated International News Photo – Measures Approx. 6" x 10"

The 1947 Brooklyn Dodgers would win 94 games and claim the National League pennant, led by a myriad of ultra-talented stars and manager Burt Shotten. While they would eventually fall short in the anti-climactic Fall Classic to their cross-town rival New York Yankees, it was the emergence of our National Pastime's inaugural African-American player, the iconic Jackie Robinson, that would ultimately change both baseball and America forever. Indeed, the courageous efforts of General Manager Branch Rickey and Robinson was now the "focus of our country", with both of these immortals battling short-sided racism throughout the 1947 campaign. As a grand testament for that legendary Dodger's season, presented here just happens to be an outstanding 1947 Dodgers team picture that includes a "rookie" Jackie Robinson sitting in the front row, second from the right.

The lengthy list of stars includes fellow Hall of Famer Pee Wee Reese (Dodger's Captain), Eddie Stanky, Carl Furillo, Dixie "The People's Choice" Walker, Pete Reiser, Spider Jorgensen, Gil Hodges; as well as pitching aces Ralph Branca, Joe Hatten and Hugh Casey. Measuring approximately 6" x 10", the borderless photo exhibits vivid resolution and a somewhat darker contrast, and the verso includes the significant International News Photo credit stamp. A few faint wrinkles do not impede the captivating team picture, with only some modest broken creases existing near the central right edge. An extraordinary 1947 Jackie Robinson heirloom, it serves as a steadfast reminder of how this remarkable 28-year old battled excessive abuse to open the floodgates for all future African-American baseball players, with his on the field exploits immensely contributing to the Brooklyn Dodgers capturing the 1947 National League Pennant!
