(LOT 150)
c.1930's Lou Gehrig PSA Type Encapsulated Photo – Measures Approx. 8" x 10" – PSA Type 1 LOA

This breathtaking c.1930's Lou Gehrig PSA Type I photo truly stands as one of the "Iron Horses" foremost illustrations extant! The Yankees Captain unquestionably resides as one of baseball's top 5 immortals, with this hallowed offering transcending time from the present state to a by-gone era preceding the greed and substance abuse currently ruling our National Pastime. Measuring approximately 8" x 10", the classic Lou Gehrig "portrait/bust" photo portrays the legendary Yankee emanating a typical Gehrig soft, graceful smile as he dons his period-style Yankees cap and pinstripes. Remarkably, the image has eluded any serious flaws, and you can literally see some of the silver-gelatin texture across the upper region, with the well centered illustration stubbornly defying "father-time" for the past 80+ years. The legacy of Henry Louis Gehrig is un-paralleled in baseball history.

Tragically, his incredible career was cut short by the deadly "ALS" disease (now more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease) which took his life at the young age of 37. Yet, for all of his "on the field" accomplishments, he will always be best remembered for his 2,130-consecutive game streak, accounting for his sacred "Iron Horse" nickname. Furthermore, his incomparable "Luckiest Man On The Face Of The Earth" farewell speech at Yankee Stadium on July 4, 1939 will forever reside as our National Pastime's Gettysburg Address. Simply stated, Lou Gehrig will forever be looked upon as the ultimate embodiment of courage, leaving an indelible mark on the game itself that will unquestionably stand the test of time. He was the "quiet hero", with this awe-inspiring Gehrig keepsake perfectly transcending his tranquil and beloved personality that was the foundation of his legendary stature. It is for all these reasons that elite enthusiasts painstakingly pursue his most sanctified collectibles, with this original Type 1 museum worthy masterpiece a magnificent candidate as the centerpiece attraction within any esteemed "Iron Horse" compilation!
