(LOT 149)
1928 New York Yankees Team Photo - PSA Type I Encapsulated Underwood & Underwood Photo – Measures Approx. 7-1/2" x 9"

Fresh off the heels of their remarkable 1927 campaign in which they established themselves as one of our National Pastime's greatest all-time ball clubs, the 1928 Yankees would continue their winning ways. Posting a spectacular 101-53 record, they would claim their third consecutive American League pennant, besting Connie Mack's imposing Athletics squad by 2.5 games. The Yankees would face off against the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1928 Fall Classic, and synonymous with their 1927 World Series feat, would sweep the Redbirds in four straight games. Once again, this team was led by the unparalleled dynamic duo of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, with the remaining "Murderer's Row" sluggers and stellar pitching staff simply too much too handle for their overmatched opponents. As an outstanding testament for this unprecedented team, presented here is a sensational 7-1/2" x 9" PSA Type I Underwood & Underwood photo of the 1928 New York Yankees.

Taken directly after the Yankees won the American League Pennant, this 92-year old heirloom portrays absolutely magnificent aesthetics, spearheaded by its crystal-clear clarity and impeccable contrast. Indeed, the image virtually appears as if it was taken yesterday, with no glaring surface flaws and strong right-angled corners. All the legendary Yankees are present including Ruth, Gehrig, Lazzeri, Combs, Meusel, Hoyt, Pennock, Shawky, Huggins and so many more of the stars that comprised this iconic team. The verso reveals the critical Underwood & Underwood credit stamp that is partly covered by a caption that lists all of the respective players on the obverse side. A significant keepsake from the immortal "Murderer's Row" era, it serves as a steadfast reminder of how the 1928 New York squad was arguably as worthy a ballclub as the 1927 Yankees, as they literally "cake-walked" to their second consecutive world championship!
