(LOT 146)
c.1928 Carl Hubbell "Rookie" PSA Type 1 Encapsulated Charles Conlon Photo - Measures Approx. 6-1/2" x 8"

Hall of Famer "King" Carl Hubbell is one of the greatest southpaws to ever toe the rubber, with the screwball artist amassing 253 victories over his spectacular 16-year career with the New York Giants. The "Meal Ticket" is the only pitcher to ever capture two MVP awards during a peacetime period (Hal Newhouser won two MVP's during WWII), and still owns the major league record of winning 24 consecutive games over two seasons. Owner of 5 consecutive 20-win seasons from 1933 thru 1937, Hubbell's most incredible accomplishment will forever be his performance in the 1934 All-Star game when he fanned Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Foxx, Al Simmons and Joe Cronin in succession! For that reason alone, collectors scramble to seize his most prized cardboard artifacts with none more remarkable than this breathtaking c.1928 Charles Conlon photo that depicts the crafty "lefty" in his 1928 rookie season.

Indeed, "King Carl" began his majestic career in New York by posting 10 wins and a stellar 2.83 E.R.A., surely a sign of what was to come from this baseball immortal. Defying "father time", the portrait Hubbell image reveals brilliant aesthetics, with the borderless memento revealing world-class clarity and contrast. The only surface flaws worthy of mention are a few negligible creases situated in the lower left quadrant, and the flipside reflects several significant Charles Conlon notions including "Carl HUBBELL", "Giants" and "Conlon Photo." In closing, this spectacular PSA Type 1 Hubbell offering is one of the few known 1928 rookie images portraying the legendary southpaw in what may be your final opportunity to capture a bona-fide Carl Hubbell illustration from his inaugural campaign!
