(LOT 133)
c.1920's Babe Ruth "Fielding" Image - PSA Type 1 Encapsulated Photo – Measures Approx. 5-3/4" x 8" – PSA Type 1 LOA

Here is one you don't see very often! Typically, Babe Ruth photos from his playing days in New York reveal the "Colossus of Swat" in a classic batting stance, with this extremely scarce c.1920's PSA Type 1 photo portraying Ruth in a seldom seen fielding position. It would certainly make sense that "The Babe's" unparalleled batting exploits led to photographers snapping a myriad of Ruth pictures while he was standing in the batter's box. Fortunately for the winning bidder, they will now be afforded the luxury of capturing this scarce memento that depicts the Bambino donning his classic Yankee pinstripes as he is about to catch a thrown baseball during a pre-game warmup.

Ruth's stoic facial expression and period-style mitt truly captures the moment, with this 5-3/4" x 8" offering exhibiting remarkable contrast and registration. While the image reflects a few serious horizontal creases that run across the entire illustration (one beneath his glove and the other beneath his knees), the miraculous-like crystal-clear clarity literally provides a "3-D" effect, turning back the clock to the 1920's when Babe Ruth changed America's favorite pastime forever via his record setting home runs. It is the amazing central image aesthetics as well as the photo's extreme obscurity that place it as a bona-fide addition to any advanced Babe Ruth gathering!
