(LOT 122)
c.1910's Cap Anson "Portrait" PSA Type 1 Encapsulated Photo – Measures Approx. 4" x 5-1/4" – PSA Type 1 LOA

This superb c.1910's Cap Anson "portrait" PSA Type 1 image was taken long after the legendary hitter hung up his cleats in 1897. Hall of Famer Cap Anson's premier status amongst 19th century enthusiasts is no secret. The slugging 1st baseman of the Chicago club was the first member of the illustrious 3,000 hit club, and ended a remarkable 27-year career with a .329 lifetime batting average. Furthermore, he clubbed 97 home runs (once hitting five dingers over a two-game span) in an era where only a handful of round-trippers was a formidable feat. Incredibly, he still remains the only Chicago Cub's member of the illustrious "3,000 Hit" club, with 3,012 of his 3,435 lifetime safeties accumulated in the "Windy City."

Seldom do turn of the century Type 1 images of the iconic Anson surface for the taking, and one simple glance at this imposing illustration would make most vintage enthusiasts jump at the opportunity to capture this ultra-scarce keepsake. The classic "bust" pose of the immortal Anson reveals the Cooperstown Inductee in his period-style formal attire, and you can clearly see the silver gelatin texture on his dapper suit. No obtrusive blemishes are evident, with a few scattered soiling spots and/or wrinkles rendered virtually irrelevant. A super turn of the century heirloom of the iconic Cap Anson, it serves as a sheer reminder of how this gifted batsman wreaked havoc on MLB hurlers for over a quarter of a century to ultimately become our National Pastime's inaugural 3,000-hit club member!
