(LOT 30)
Highest Graded 1909 Cy Young E92 Dockman & Sons (SGC NM/MT 8) - "1 of 1" SGC Encapsulated Copy w/NONE Graded Higher on the Combined SGC & PSA "Pop" Charts!

In 1909, three candy manufacturers (Dockman & Sons, Crofts Candy & Crofts Cocoa) used the exact same 40-subject checklist to advertise their candy brands, with these cardboard treats ultra-popular with collectors due to the myriad of baseball Hall of Famers included in the sets. One of those prestigious Cooperstown inductees is the iconic Cy Young, and it is his extraordinary E92 Dockman & Sons marvel presented here in an SGC NM/MT 8 holder that stands alone at the top of the SGC population report! Indeed, synonymous with Cy Young's seemingly unbreakable 511-win record is this incredible offering that likewise stands as "king of the hill", sharing the spotlight with only a single PSA 8 specimen. They named an annual "pitching excellence" award after the great Cy Young, and this candy card of the legendary right hander, likewise, certainly merits a "best of the best" rarity award. Cy Young established the benchmark for all other pitchers to chase, and it is clearly unfathomable to think about the possibility of winning 500+ games in 21st century baseball.

To place that notion in perspective, a pitcher would need to win at least 25 games for 20 consecutive seasons, and due to starting pitchers no longer "hanging around" in the later innings, Young's 511 victories record truly stands as one of our National Pastimes most unbreakable feats. No wonder elite collectors scramble to collect his most eclectic and cherished cardboard relics, with this finest "E" card depiction of him included on a myriad of vintage card want lists. Portrayed in a gray hued Cleveland uniform, Young's flawless pitching pose is set against a bold orange background, reflecting crystal clear clarity and impeccable contrast. Atypical for this "E- card", the image reveals near-perfect centering between four blinding white borders, and the super clean surfaces appear as if the card was just pulled from a 1909 candy box. Right-angled corners, a razor-sharp perimeter, and a vivid "JOHN DOCKMAN & SONS" ad-back are additional superlatives clearly supporting the pinnacle assessment. Indeed, any serious enthusiasts should try their hardest to place the final bid on this electrifying masterpiece, that via its irrefutable exalted "NM/MT 8" grade stands as the perfect testament for the immortal Cy Young's 511 record wins!
