(LOT 490)
1948 Old Gold Cigarettes Jackie Robinson "Kneeling in Dugout" Pose (SGC Good+ 2.5)

One of the earliest Jackie Robinson issues is the 1948 Old Gold Cigarettes postcard sized issue that was distributed with two different poses including the "Kneeling in Dugout" and "Catching Ball" subjects. Presented here is the ultra-popular "Kneeling in Dugout" pose in an SGC 2.5 holder, one of only 21 examples encapsulated by the prestigious SGC grading service.

While even corner wear and some light stray wrinkles account for the grade, the critical Jackie Robinson central image has retained a majority of its original luster. The verso's thorough Jackie Robinson "bio" is completely intact, the final exclamation point for an underrated card that for years has been immensely undervalued versus other pre-1950 Robinson issues (Leaf, Bowman & Bond Bread). Significantly rarer than the iconic 1948 Leaf Robinson, it was likewise issued in 1948, the year after Jackie & Branch Rickey courageously teamed up to break baseball's seemingly imperviable "Color Barrier" that would change America's Pastime and our Nation forever!
