(LOT 443)
1914 Cracker Jack #18 Johnny Evers (SGC NM 7)

The Cracker Jack cardboard relics included in caramel candy boxes in 1914 and 1915 are one of the most coveted cardboard collectibles in our illustrious hobby. One of the set's most renowned players is the immortal Chicago Cubs Hall of Fame 2nd baseman Johnny Evers, presented here in a breathtaking SGC "Near-Mint 7" holder. Currently, it proudly stands as the SOLE SGC encapsulated "NM 7" example on the prestigious SGC Census Report with only a meager 2 specimens graded higher! There isn't a single baseball fan that hasn't heard of the "Tinker to Evers to Chance" double play combination that led the Cubs to several pennants and two World Championships in 1907 and 1908.

This example lists the legendary "second cog" in that famous trio as a member of his new Boston Braves National League team, one year after assisting the Braves in sweeping the heavily favorite Athletics in the 1914 World Series. A classic Evers throwing image is vividly registered and set against a robust red background. The image reveals near-perfect centering, residing between four snow white borders that end at fine square-like corner formations. The final exclamation point for this 105-year-old keepsake is the lack of any obtrusive caramel stains as well as a vivid jet-black text affixed to a super bright verso. Miraculous to say the least, this easily suffices as one of the premier Cracker Jack Johnny Evers 1914 Cracker Jacks you will ever come across, and one that synonymous with Evers remarkable 2nd sacker legacy, proudly stands as one of the finer encapsulated examples!
