(LOT 441)
1912 T207 Brown Background Tris Speaker (PSA VG/EX 4)

SPEAKER!!! One of the more eclectic Tris Speaker cardboard issues is presented here, a superb PSA VG/EX 4 T207 Brown Background marvel that seldom presents itself in mid-grade fashion. Indeed, PSA's illustrious "Pop" Chart clearly substantiates the condition sensitivity for this issue, listing only nine other specimens at the VG/EX tier with a mere eight examples graded higher! The card's aesthetics justify the scarce assessment with Speaker's imposing batting image exhibiting fine centering and a relatively clean surface. Even corner wear is the major contributor to the grade, and the verso reflects the "RECRUIT LITTLE CIGARS" cigarette ad typically seen on most T207 subjects.

The "Gray Eagle" (Speaker's popular nickname) was one of the greatest centerfielder's that ever graced a ball field. Over his outstanding 22-year career, he accumulated over 3,514 hits, including 792 doubles and 222 triples to the tune of a .345 lifetime batting average. He was famous for playing the shallowest centerfield in major league history, almost daring the hitter to drive the ball over his head, and is credited with the most outfield assists in major league history including a single season record of 35 in 1909. Indeed, this card stands as the perfect testament for this remarkable Cooperstown Inductee who unquestionably resides as one of the greatest centerfielders in MLB history!
