(LOT 136)
c.1960s Mickey Mantle Classic Batting Photo – PSA Type l Encapsulated Random House - Measures Approx. 8" x 10"

Little did people realize that in 1951, the ultra-powerful rookie from Oklahoma named Mickey Charles Mantle would be embarking on one of the most iconic careers in our National Pastime's glorious history. Luckily for hobbyists, there are hundreds of Mantle cards to choose from, more than accommodating the collecting community for an opportunity to own a popular baseball card of this Yankee icon. Unfortunately for advanced photo enthusiasts, the prospect of capturing one of his original batting images resides as a fractional opportunity versus the seemingly countless number of available baseball cards that flood the hobby. Offered here just happens to be one of the most imposing Mantle batting photos extant, an imposing c.1960's image with the "Commerce Comet" completing his mighty left-handed swing that launched a seemingly infinite number of tape measure homers towards the furthest confines of any ballpark.

Measuring approximately 8" x 10", "The Mick" is donning his classic Yankee pinstripes, completing his colossal swing from Yankee Stadium's left-handed batter's box as he watches his mammoth blast sail towards the furthest confines of the cathedral-like stadium. The breathtaking Random House issued illustration exhibits fine centering, impeccable contrast, crystal-clear clarity, a relatively obverse side surface and no glaring flaws. The 1960s would see Mantle achieve two world-class milestones; the first being Mickey eclipsing the Bambino's all-time World Series 15-homer record (Mantle would wind up w/18 W.S. round-trippers), and the second being the "Commerce Comet" belt his 500th career home run which at the time made him only the fourth player to achieve that mark! – PSA Type I Encapsulation
