(LOT 133)
1960 World Series - Mickey Mantle & Whitey Ford - PSA Type l Encapsulated Associated Press Photo – Measures Approx. 7" x 9"

This magnificent photo pictures the immortal Mickey Mantle with fellow Hall of Fame teammate Whitey Ford, posing for the camera during their October 7, 1960 workout at Yankee Stadium before game#3. Having split the first two games in Pittsburgh, the Yankees would be sending ace southpaw Whitey Ford to the mound the next day (October 8th), hoping to gain a 2-1 series edge. The legendary left-hander would not disappoint the New York faithful, shutting out the Pirates 10-0 with Mantle belting his 3rd round-tripper of the series. Measuring approximately 7" x 9", this breathtaking image ironically reveals Ford twirling several bats over his head, with both him and "The Mick" emanating super candid smiles.

Interestingly enough, although the workout is at Yankee Stadium, both players are donning their "ROAD" gray flannel uniforms (instead of the classic home pinstripes). The brilliant black & white illustration depicts the finest possible clarity and contrast you will ever see, and there are no noteworthy surface flaws whatsoever. The final "thumbs up" is the significant ASSOCIATED PRESS caption on the verso that reflects specific details of this revered photo. As an aftermath to this offering, while Ford would toss another shutout in game#6, Pittsburgh would ultimately capture the World Championship via Bill Mazeroski's iconic game#7 walk-off homer that stands as one of the Fall Classic's greatest moments! – PSA Type I Encapsulation
