(LOT 126)
1946 Ted Williams "Batting Pose" PSA Type I Encapsulated ACME Newspictures Photo – Measures Approx. 6" x 7-1/2"

From 1943 thru 1945, the immortal Ted Williams missed three MLB seasons due to World War II, primarily serving his country as a flight training instructor at a Florida based military camp. Upon returning to the Red Sox in 1946 after the highly celebrated conclusion of the war on September 2, 1945, it wouldn't take baseball's premier slugger long to pick up right where he left off. The Splendid Splinter once again ravaged American League hurlers to the tune of 38 round-trippers, 123 runs batted in, a .342 batting average and an incredible 1.164 OPS! This offensive onslaught was the major driver in leading the BoSox to the American League pennant, and although they would lose a tightly contested 7-game contest to the St. Louis Cardinals, it was clear that "The Kid" hadn't lost any of his unparalleled batting prowess.

As a grand testament to William's uncanny batting exploits, this 1946 PSA Type 1 photo depicts the legendary "Thumper" completing his virtually perfect swing in a pre-game workout at the iconic Yankee Stadium. Measuring approximately 6" x 7-1/2" and issued by ACME Newspictures, the left-field grandstands serve as an imposing backdrop with the brilliant image eluding any obtrusive flaws over the past 74 years. The only negligible blemishes are some faint upper and lower right border wrinkles as well as a few diminutive soiling spots situated in the lower right quadrant. The quintessential Ted Williams batting photo, it serves as a steadfast reminder of how this smooth-swinging left-handed hitter fulfilled his ultimate dream of walking down the street and having people pass him and quote: "there goes the greatest hitter the game has ever seen"! - PSA Type I Encapsulation
